Devueltos / The Returned

We need your help to tell this story!

Principle Pictures’ newest human rights film. DEVUELTOS / THE RETURNED is the urgent, untold story of today’s humanitarian crisis in the Americas – and of the children at its center. On the frontlines of the gang violence in Honduras, inhumane detentions and round-the-clock pro bono attorney clinics in America, and migrant shelters in Mexico, we are documenting the conditions children are fleeing and what happens when they are forced to return home. The number of unaccompanied children caught crossing the US border surged to nearly 70,000 in fiscal year 2014. In many cases, fast-track illegal proceedings force them back home to face the violence and poverty they tried to escape. More than half of the cities children are fleeing are in Honduras, and as the US stepped up deportations this summer, most of the planes packed with returnees are landing in San Pedro Sula, the world’s murder capital.

Just a few weeks ago this Honduran mother (pictured above) said goodbye to her 13-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. The teens traveled by themselves to America in order to escape M18, a violent Central American street gang. The number of unaccompanied children caught crossing the US border surged to nearly 70,000 in fiscal year 2014. In many cases, fast-track illegal proceedings force them back home to face the violence and poverty they tried to escape.

We traveled to Honduras for a research trip this August, and are grateful for the support we received to make that filming possible. We are planning to return to Honduras in November 2014, and need your help to get there and to follow this important story. We hope you’ll find yourself enticed not only by the subject matter of our film, but also by the pretty cool gifts we want to give you for supporting us!
